  1. Scientifically I don't know...but God intends for there to be rumbles in the sky so by how it happens it's bound to happen...

  2. When lightning occurs,it heats the air around it to an incredible 30000 degree celcius, five times hotter than the surface of the sun. This heat causes the air to expand very fast,i.e.,faster than the speed of sound.it is this which causes the crash of thunder.

In other words, thunder is a type of "sonic boom" created by the rapid heating and expansion of air.

  3. The lightning bolt creates a sudden increase in temperature in the air through which it passes.  This causes an expansion of the air, audible as sound.  The temperature rise can be as much as 50,000 degrees.  There are various means by which small electric sparks may be created; these make a noise -- but not nearly as much as a lightning bolt.

  4. When the lightning superheats the air it causes a sound called thunder

  5. Sure, thunder is formed after a bolt of lightening splits the air during travel.....the noise of thunder is created because the air molecules are returning to their previous position and are under unbelievably great force, thus creating the noise when they slam into each other.
