  1. Gonna go with visualization in your down times. You need to find a place where you will be relaxed (but not ready for sleep) and take a few deep breaths. Then you need to focus on performing you skill or skills in as close to a real setting as possible. Try to envision the court, the gym, fans in the stands, your coach, team mates and so on. Next actually see yourself performing the skills correctly. Everytime you do feel a sense of pride and confidence in you abilities. Some experts even suggest coming up with key words you can repeat to yourself when you feel tense. Certain words like great repeated quickly to yourself while clapping fast (say it three times while clapping) releases energy from the mind and body.

Lastly, understand that volleyball is one of the few sports (tennis is another) where the other team gets points for mistakes by your team. I have yet to see a perfect player or team, so if you understand that you will make mistakes occasionally then there is less pressure to be perfect all the time. Just make sure you learn from your mistakes!

  2. Picture yourself doing things well. There are physiological reasons for why imagination can be helpful.

Many top athletes will spend time leading up to competition visualizing themselves playing well. You can also use this when you are under stress at the very end of a match.

Instead of thinking to yourself "I hope I don't mess this up for my team", you should be thinking "What do I need to do right now to win?"

For example, good passers are not hoping the ball goes to someone else. They are confidant in their ability, and hope that every ball will come their way.

  3. oh maaan! do i know that feeling!  just zone out and take a few seconds to relax.  breath in "re" and out "lax" it sounds stupid but it works.

  4. It's really hard, trust me, I have the same problem. All you can do is "shake it off and make it better with a pass/set/hit", if you mess up. That will take some of the "OH NO! I JUST MESSED UP!" tension off. And as for the getting intimidated part, just remember, they can't really hurt you, and they are players just like you. They aren't gods, they aren't super-people, they are just volleyball players. Just focus on making your game the best it can be, and when you make a good dig, set a great 5, or get a kill or an ace, concentrate on that good feeling, and let it carry over into your playing. Hope that helps. Good Luck!

  5. loosen up your body and stay confident and watch the ball

  6. yeah its difficult to relax at the games

-just do what you do in practice - be yourself

-dont think negative "Oh my God what am I thinking"

-just say "I'm gonna show them who I am"

ok you dont want to be angry and try to enjoy the game.....because only in games you have the chance to play

    good luck!

  7. just think to yourself that you are amazing and you can do well. i have done really well before and i can do it now.  think of what you did well at before and try and do it again.  wow i should take some of this advice and from other people. i have a soccer game and i need to do well. it is our last game.  well good luck. i know u will do fine. just forget you ever messed up. and your teammates will help you out.

  8. olk i have played select volleyball for 5 years. I am 15 years old. And i was ton varsity for my highschool.  I play a on of volleyball, actually i have practice and a camp tonight.

I understand where you are coming from, just take a deep breathe and play your hardest.

This might sound stupid, but my  coach makes us do this, and it works, before a big game, when your lying in your bed, imagine your self playing the game,  go through all the differant plays, and imagine your self playing really well.  Just relax and get pumped to play.  It is a great game, and fun too.  Have fun and enjoy the game. Good luck to you, ny more questions i would be happy to answer them for you.

  9. It's only a lot of game time, will get you more relaxed ... and to go through a ritual for when you get ready to play - like a few hours beforehand.  Helps not to have just eaten too, as your digestion needs it's normal time.  When playing volleyball in the early evening - I find it helps to have your meal very early and get the digestion out of the way...

As a beginner - you will make errors, and that's normal - just understand why you make mistakes, so that next time - in the exact same situation - you then make the play correctly.

Only a lot of regular practice will help get you to be more consistant - so practice with a cheap practice volleyball outside and with friends etc etc over any holiday period, and take a volleyball (cheap practice one) with you anywhere .. so that when you have the spare time and are bored --- you can practice by yourself or with others ... even just basic ball handling skills practice will help a lot..
