I know how to post at a normal speed but if your horse trots too fast how do you post correctly?

  1. try to keep your body back to slow him down and slow your posting... try to sit longer in between posts because the more weight that's on his back, the slower you'll be able to go.  Also, to teach your horse to slow his trot, take him on small circles... and try to let the curve take you to different areas of the arena.  once you're comfortable with his speed, let him trot bigger circles.  Keep your body back and your weight down in your seat.  You can also work on slowing him down at the sitting trot and then once he's slow add some posting... start with just a few posts and then sit again if he goes too fast.
