I know i sound thick but when how did james toseland get his number 52 and did he have it in wsb..

the wife asked me how they got the numbers because stoner is world champ and he got the number 1 but valentino was world champ he kept his 46 so who or where do they get there numbers from.. do they pick them ....

  1. James had his 52 since he was 16, racing around the UK on CB500 with Casey.

    As for number one plate, you only wear it if you want.

    Vale has never worn the one plate even though he has 7 world titles to his name.

    Most of the riders have there numbers for personal reasons, 46 was Vale's Dad's racing number.

    There are so many to list, we would be here all day !

Riders are usually allocated the lowest free number available. as riders are usually supersticious they tend to keep their number. you are entitled to take the number that you finish in the season. as Dani pedrosa took the number 2 plate. Rossi kept the 46 but wore the number 1 on his shoulder. the rider is allowed to refuse the first number and take any other available number as long as it does not go lower than his standing in the championship from the previous year. the superstition makes rides try to pick lucky numbers. like 7 or multiples to add to 34 or 111 100.  Nicky haydens 69 was his fathers number like Rossi's 46.
