I know I shouldn't be smoking, and I know its worse smoking especially since I am bipolar type 1.

When I am depressed and I get high, I get SUUUUUPER high, like i knock out and fall alseep quick.

When i am manic and I get high, its like i dont even feel the high, just the confusion that comes with the high. It actually feels pretty irritating, on top of that smoking more and more and not really getting high.

Why is this? Or am I just imagining things and that any given amount of weed affects you the same regardless of mania/depression?

  1. No. Marijuana effects can vary depending on mood states, especially in very severe situations like bipolar mania and depression. It probably has to do with the pretty extreme difference with how your brain is operating in each state, and marijuana's strange effects on global brain metabolism and activity. So no, I would say you're not imagining it.

However, you know that you shouldn't be doing this as a bipolar. In addition to the substance abuse potential, which has been mentioned, there's been some research done lately that implicates marijuana in aggravating cycling, and especially aggravating manic states long term. Add that to it's tendency to muck with psych meds, and it's a rather ugly picture. The more you cycle, the worse your bipolar illness tends to get.

  2. Smoke on up IF you're 18 or over lol. If it makes you feel bad I wouldn't do it though. I have a different disorder so it helps me but every1 is different.

POT is NOT a drug like Heroin.

Don't ever take Lithium, a drug given to many bi polar patients. It doesn't work & you have to have blood tests every week.

  3. Bipolar disorder sometimes makes you more vulnerable to substance abuse. A  vicious cycle can then occur in which bipolar leads to an increase in pot abuse and pot further worsens your manic or depressive symptoms. You are adding to your illness, so stop the pot and consult your doctor immediately.

  4. you dont sound like you are reacting well to weed. you should stop.
