Question:

I know so many people ask this...but am I overweight?

I'm 15, about 5"8 and I think around 138-140lbs. I'm just concerned, because I've always been on the slim side but when I started high school last year I ate at the caf almost every day for about 3 months and gained 20lbs. This past summer I didn't get out much so I gained even more weight. I don't like how I look, because I have a pudgy belly and large thighs, but others say I'm alright (minus my mom, who is super skinny and a personal trainer, and my dad drops hints that he thinks I've gotten a little chunky). My mom is not a lot of help. I'll ask her for a bit of help, and then she'll cut down on the carbs she feeds me for about a week, and then there we are having fried chicken or spaghetti again (she usually makes a separate dinner for herself, but it's usually something gross and it's very repetitive).

I'm hoping that once I start dancing again (8 hours a week, up from 6) I'll drop a bit of weight (I don't want to lose much, just maybe 5-10lbs).

I'm sorry for being one of those annoying insecure teenagers...but I just need honest opinions.

Thanks :)

  1. Your ideal weight is listed as 133 pounds.  You should be able to correct your "pudgy" problems by an easy dietary correction.

  2. For your height, that weight is completely healthy.

  3. I'm the same height, and I'm pretty sure that that's a healthy weight. I would recommend, however; maybe taking charge of your diet and not just eating what your mum gives you, fried chicken isn't exactly the most weight-loss friendly meal.

    Good luck!

  4. i dont think you're over weight. dont think you are because everyone else is anorexic. try bring lunch to school from now on, its healthier.

  5. Your ideal weight would be 140 lbs so below 120 lbs could be regarded as underweight and above 160 lbs could be regarded as overweight.  Your weight is excellent.

Perhaps you need a bit of toning and swimming is ideal for toning as well as slimming.  The more laps every day the better.

  6. you are totally at a healthy weight for your height. if you want to slim down, just trying doing thirty minutes of cardio every day!

  7. No, you are actually at a healthy weight.

Girls your age that are 5'4 need to weigh 130.

Don't drop weight just to look good, if you want to look good and be healthy then do crunches. Crunches help, it replaces fat into muscle.
