Are there any other adoptees who were in this situation? Or do you think it's really strange?

  1. Ewww. No, I never wanted to go out with anyone in my afamily--they were trashy!

  2. Is she is knowingly dating her adoptive cousin or her natural cousin?

I do know people who have had relationships with people that they later found out were relatives.

    ETA:

Even though it's her adoptive cousin and they are not related by blood, most states' incest laws include adoptive relatives.  She should check the incest laws in her state.

  3. My kids are adopted, and they think the idea of dating their cousins is "gross."   But if you think about it, I suppose there is nothing really wrong with it since they are not biologically related.

The main reason for not dating biological relatives is that if any diseases are inherent in the family (like cystic fibrosis), the chances of passing them on to the children is much greater if the parents are both from the same family.  But back in the old days, lots of people married their cousins, and no one thought there was anything wrong with it.

  4. I would think that she would accept her adopted family as her family, and not go out with her cousin.

Does she not get along with them or was she just adopted?

If she was just recently adopted, or maybe if she hasn't seen this cousin ever, I guess I understand.

  5. I don't find that weird or anything, primarily because they aren't real cousins (genetically speaking). Also, there are places where it is acceptable for cousins (even real ones) to marry. I guess it's a cultural thing

  6. she is going out with her biological cousin or adoptive cousin? either way i do think its a bit odd.
