I am referring to his on field behavior. I have no interest in what he gets up to off field as that is his business.

  1. Many sportspeople at the top of their game come over as being a bit arrogent - I think it comes with the territory and helps them to push themselves. I don't think Buddy is on his own with this character trait. Elite sports people have to have a belief in themselves to stay on their game, especially in this country as we are well known for building up our champions and then chopping them down. (Lleyton Hewitt is a classic example of this (though not a popular one I am sure!!), All of the Aussie (tennis) public was looking for a male top tennis player, along comes Lleyton, uses his arrogence to win many many matches and now everyone dislikes him because of that arrogence....)

  2. Not really, i don't see him do anything related to arrogance really, he's not like a 'Jeff farmer' or someone,   all his off field antics don't wash with me but on field, he has something i have not seen in a long time,   lets not cut his footy skills down because he is good, what us Aussies are good at, i want to see the best of this bloke, very talented footballer, he could end up being up there with the greats if he stays at this level he is playing for 4-5 years.

  3. in a way......yes.

but im not sure of too many players (past and present) that have made THAT much of an impact on their team, and not been a little smug about it.

lets just say that yes, he is smug, but there are and have been alot worse than him.

    cmon you crows

  4. Buddy has been under much scrutiny in the media, and most of it is not true. No, i don't think Buddy is arrogant/smug.

  5. NO, He is not arrogent or smug, he just enjoys himself and has fun.

  6. yeah but that's buddy  he is young  one of the best footy players around he probably has the right to be a bit arrogant

  7. He's a big lad and his body language is confident.

A lot of women especially admire him and show it.

He is a young bloke and maybe overdoes the cheering when he gets his(many)goals.

Can think of worse things people do on a field.

e g everything Daniel Kerr, Basher Hall, the Burgoyne boys and Mcmanus of the Dockers get up to.

  8. Here in Australia (home of Australian Rules football) we actually spell it "behaviour".

  9. Louise

What are specific acts does he do on field that you classify as arrogant and smug?

Keeping in mind that we should compare this to what others are doing as well.

    .

  10. I agree, I think he may be getting a little ahead of himself. The public are jumping on his bandwagon too quickly. Don't get me wrong, he is a great player, but i think he needs to learn how to deal with his status as one of the game's elite... He'll be able to handle all the attention better once he gains more experience.

  11. He has an air of confidence in himself, that often comes with players around his age...I wont say he is arrogant.

  12. Yes. I totally agree with you.

I made a similar comment in this section, earlier in the season, & came in for a bit of criticism for my remarks.

People are comparing him to some of the all time greats - but I can never recall any of those, whom I regard as being great - carrying on & big noting themselves, as Franklin does.

  13. Yes, after he takes a mark or kicks a goal or even while he is lining up for goal he's got this smug little smile on his face. He definitely knows he is good. I don't really mind it though, it would be a bit boring without a character like his or Hall's out there :)

  14. I watched him for the 1st time friday night and thats exactly what i said to my OH.
