  1. with american i believe that they dont charge you for the first checeked item but the second one is like 50 dollars.and the in flight bag rule is 2 bags one under your seat (has to small) and one in the overhead bin (can be large/medium) hope i helped.

  2. In Flight or On board, Inflight you are limited to two but a purse or laptop bag does not count. On Board (i.e., checked luggage is a little more confusing) I'm  not 100% positive but what I thought was United's New checked baggage policy will depend on when you bought your ticekt and when you plan to fly, so If you are traveling on or after August 18, 2008 on an Economy ticket or Economy award ticket purchased on or after June 13, 2008, a $15 service fee will apply for your first checked bag. Also, a $25 fee will apply for a second checked bag, depending on when you purchased your ticket and when you are traveling (remember over 50lbs = $100-$125!!) Everything after that is dependent when you bought your ticket and when you plan to fly as well as your level of mileage plus status, so the next 4 bags are $100-$125 each, and anything after that (7th) will be $200-$250 per bag. But check with your particular airline. Also the numbers might be a little off but the moral of the story is DONT CHECK MORE THAN TWO BAGS!! It will cost less to ship it!! Keep it withing the 50lbs limit and dimensions!! Whew, Hope I get a best answer for this!
