  1. I think most are based on the manufacturers specs. But all are custom built .

  2. The rearend in a NASCAR racecar are all based on the Ford 9", although they are not stock rearends, there are several differential manufacturers out there that build these rear ends (Strange, Speedway Engineering, Moser, etc...) pick up any copy of Circle Track or Stock Car Racing magazines and you will find advertisements for these various manufacturers.

As far as transmissions, they are a 4 speed manual, usually built by Bert or Brinn transmissions and are based on the GM Saginaw design.

Of course the chassis are all the same, no matter which nose is on the car, or motor under the hood. And they use a 60 year old GM style truck arm suspension  suspension in the rear with a panhard rod and weight jacks.

Chassis are either built in house by some of the big teams, or leased or bought from big teams by smaller teams, and of course there are independent chassis shops out there like Laughlin, Lefthander, or Hutcherson Pagan.

Sorry for the long answer, just wanted to share my knowledge

  3. They are made just for nascar and are not made by any particular car manufacture. Most are made by independent shops.

  4. I believe they are all Ford 9" but don't quote me on that.

  5. Pretty much agreeing with the guy above me. They are all Ford 9" rearends with a long arm suspension setup derived from a late '60's Chevy 2wd pick-up.

The transmissions are the same saginaw based models but Chevy, Ford and Dodge have different bell housing bolt patterns requiring the use of different bell housing's to mate the transmission's to the engine block's.

Toyota however, shares the same bell housing bolt pattern as a Chevy.
