I was mailed a letter by someone in bootcamp. But I lost the envelope. I remembered the address but not the division. So I am wondering if I send a letter to this person in bootcamp without their division number if they will still get it.

  1. I believe as long as you have the Company and Battalion or Squadron your letter will get delivered

    Example

    PVT Smith

    Co A / 325th Field Battalion

    Ft. Whatever, and State

  2. Probably, there usually aren't more than one division in one place. That is a certainty in the Marines, probably fairly accurate in the Army.

  3. just send the letter and see what happens.  better to get one off quickly, then to wait.

  4. What you can do is telephone the post where the bootcamp is located.  There is a service called "post locator" that can tell you the unit a soldier is assigned to.

Otherwise, if you just put person's name, it *might* work, if it is a unique name.  If the person's name is common, like "Bill Jones," the letter will probably be returned with a message stating there are too many "Bill Jones" on post to determine which one the letter was intended to be delivered to.
