I know the law in Illinois for Mopeds under 50cc etc.... does this apply to electric powered scooters as well?

  1. electric motors aren't measured in displacement like internal combustion engines, so 50cc doesn't apply.

    I think if it is not faster than 30mph, has less than 2hp and doesn't have gears than it qualifies as a moped under 50cc.

    that's what I got from a quick glance at the illinois dmv website anyway


  2. Im not for sure but I wouldnt think so, but it could be check with local and state laws not here.

  3. If you are hoping to license a Vectrix electric scooter as a moped, forget it. The states already know what these things are-scooter/motorcycles.

    If you are talking about those little three wheeled vehicles folks us to get around on, then no license is needed.
