in my town this is the forcast:

An area of showers and isolated thunderstorms will affect the region into the early morning hours. Most of the precipitation will be on the light side, but there will be some embedded heavier rain. Be alert for rapidly deteriorating conditions. And remember, all cloud to ground lightning can be dangerous.

"Be alert for rapidly deteriorating conditions"?

do they mean "keep an eye out for the bad weather to break apart and not be so bad". okay well thats a really kidish way to put it but im trying to put it in the most simpliest terms i can.

so yes. could anybody clarify by my so "kidish way" to this to be correct and thats what it means. if it doesnt mean this..could you tell me what it acually means. i know i sound stupid. but i love to track weather. and i need an accurate meaning to know what to watch out for over night. and if you were wondering yes i do want to be a meteorologist. anyway..thank you in advanced for any HELPFUL answers.

  1. Well, first of all there is no stupid questions and anyone who makes fun of you for asking a question IS stupid. The only stupid question is the one you don't ask because you are afraid of being called stupid. With that being said, I would not imagine that the weatherman would be warning you  to "keep alert" for a deteriorating situation if it means that the weather will not be that bad. My guess is that he is probably warning you that the weather could get worse. He doesn't know exactly HOW bad it will be (meteorology is still a big mystery and they are not very good at predicting weather to the exact degree quite yet, however it is still both amazing and admirable as to what they CAN do and I imagine meteorology will be an exciting industry in the near future with so many advances and discoveries to still be made) so he doesn't want to just say that it will be a certain way and then have it turn out to be way worse so if he just throws in toward the end to be alert of rapidly deteriorating conditions then basically he is covering his behind in case something DOES happen. Kind of like insuring himself in case he turns out to be tottaly wrong (which happens often to weathermen/women). Good Luck! Se la vie!

  2. Be alert for rapidly deteriorating conditions

What this is basically saying.... even if the weather seems fine, nice and sunny, or maybe even just cloudy with some scattered rain here and there... things can change rapidly and you should watch out for the weather to turn bad quickly.  Weather conditions can change remarkably fast, so they are telling you to be ready for things to get ugly quick.  And remember that if you can hear thunder, you're close enough to be struck by lightning.  Keep and eye to the sky and watch for darkening clouds and keep an eye on the radar if you have access to it.

  3. Expect conditions to possibly get worse at any time....
