Question:

I know there is no evidence about this, but did global warming start when we humans dropped the 1st atom bomb?

You know what has puzzled me is the fact that so many people blame fossil fuels for the cause of global warming, but if you look at our planets history, we have always had alot of CO2 in the atmosphere because of volcanic activity. What made me wonder is whether there are other reasons for the cause of global warming. One thing that instantly came to my mind that everyone has been ignoring is the fact that maybe Global Warming started when we dropped the first atom bomb and then it continued to worsen as we began testing more powerful bombs in Russia and the South Pacific. You see the enromous and devastating power that a nuclear bomb produces is overwhelming that no one can simply ignore. Anyway, what if Global warming was started by the first atom bomb? I personally think that more research needs to be done on how it was started in the first place because if indeed it was caused by the atom bomb & nuclear bombs after it, then i think that reversing it would be impossible.

  1. global warming isn't even real so this is a stupid question, but you are right about the volcanos, plus people and animals breath too, what do they think we're going to do, stop breathing?  Plants and animals need CO2, CO2 is life!

  2. The rise in atmospheric CO2 started way before any nuclear bombs.  Humans have emitted more than enough CO2 to explain the rise from 280 to 385 ppm CO2 in the atmosphere.

And the answerer that said volcano's emit more CO2 in a YEAR than humans since the industrial age, is unequivocally wrong.

    http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/Hazards/What/V...

"Human activities release more than 130 times the amount of CO2 emitted by volcanoes--the equivalent of more than 8,000 additional volcanoes like Kilauea (Kilauea emits about 3.3 million tonnes/year)! (Gerlach et. al., 2002)"

  3. what you on about "Your basic information"

its just a thought. it even says in the question

and as for putting your faith in god? whats the invisable man going to do? build a rocket and fly us all to the moon? i dont think so. get real.

youre all n00bs and this guy speaks sense.

  4. No, if you look at the scientific evidence, the earth has steadily been warming since the last ice age.

  5. I never thought of that. Interesting. It very well could have. But not only global warming but also devestation of the plant life that takes in the CO2... interesting

  6. I think it is totally arrogant to think that we have that much effect on the Earth. I don't think we can override whatever God has planned for us. We just need to live our lives and look at the facts. Global warming does not exist. The scientists said we had a cooling problem in the 80s. We have gotten to the point where we blame everything on global warming. If you get a headache...global warming. You stub your toe? Global warming. Several scientists have proof that the glaciers are actually growing in Alaska. On a one hour special on the Discovery channel they were comparing pictures of specific areas from then to now. A one hundred year difference. Well guess what. The older pictures from 100 years ago were taken in the prime of winter, and when they took the new pictures, it was in the prime of the summer. So no sh*t the glaciers are going to be smaller. I just put my faith in God and I feel comforted. Humans are way too arrogant. Honestly, it is getting on my nerves. I just make sure not to tune into BSNBC.

  7. Volcanoes and other earth eruptions emit far more CO2 in ONE year than humans have put there since the dawn of the industrial revolution. There are many many natural fires each year as well, started by lightening, that dump particulate matter and CO2 into the air.

The first atom bomb has nothing to do with it. If you want to take it to the Nth degree, then it started the FIRST time some caveman picked up a stick with FIRE on it and took it back to his cave to make his own fires....

  8. Read Michael Chrightons book "State of Fear" After reading this book your next question will be.... Is global warming real?

The answer is we dont know for sure.

That said alot of the things we need to do if global warming is real will still be benificial if its not. So walk dont ride, recycle, and insist that our government tries to find alternative energy sources like hydrogen etc.

  9. Your basic information is wrong.

Yes, earth has always had volcanic activity; but climate change is about change. The concentrations of greenhouse gases have increased significantly since the time of industrialization.

The global atmospheric concentration of methane has increased by approximately 148% from a pre-industrial value of about 715 ppb.  It was 1774 ppb in 2005. The atmospheric concentration of methane in 2005 exceeds by far the natural range of the last 650,000 years (320 to 790 ppb).

Nitrous oxide concentrations in the atmosphere have grown by about 18%, from a pre-industrial value of about 270 to 319 ppb in 2005.

In 1750, prior to the industrial revolution, the concentration of atmospheric CO2 was 280 ppm. Today it is over 380 ppm[1].  Today’s concentration exceeds the natural range of atmospheric CO2 over al least the past 650,000 years (180 to 280ppm). All of the increase is due to anthropogenic (mankind's) activities.[2]

Edit: Some of the other answers show an appalling level of lack of understanding and misunderstanding of basic facts.

    A. According to the best estimates, volcanoes release about 130-230 million tonnes[3] of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.  This estimate includes both subaerial and submarine volcanoes, about in equal amounts.  Emissions of CO2 by human activities, (including fossil fuel burning, cement production, and gas flaring) amount to about 27 billion tonnes per year (30 billion tons). Human activities produce much larger amounts of greenhouse gasses than do volcanoes.

    B. The Earth has not been constantly warming since the end of the ice age. Simple logic proves that this is untrue. The Earth has warmed by almost 0.8°C (about 1.4°F) over the last century. The last ice age ended about 11,500 years ago. According to their logic, then the Earth should be over 90°C warmer today. Ridiculous!!

  10. why are you coming up with excuses for global warming? it makes the most sense that fossil fuels are the cause of it. from the beginning of the industrial revolution, we have exponentially increased our production of factories to make and sell products. within about 100 years we used up so many of earth's resources just to put back into the atmosphere. and those gases don't go anywhere. they just sit there and keep building up and the thickness of the atmosphere is causing the greenhouse effect on our planet.

  11. NO, IT STARTED IN THE 1970'S AND GLOBAL WARMING IS'NT CAUSED BY ANYTHING MAN MADE, ALSO ALL NON-SOLIDS DECIPATE ABOVE YOUR HEADS IN THE FRIDGID THINNED AIR OUTSIDE.
