  1. By slowing down the grass the ball does bounce higher. It is slower like clay, and John Mcenroe claims that the grass at Wimbledon is slower than the clay at the French Open! I found that to be extremely ridiculous! It could be true, though.

One reason they made the grass slower is because the old fast grass was getting torn up too easily, and this new grass is slower but more durable. Another reason they slowed it down was because they want to see new champions instead of Roger Federer and Pete Sampras (back in the day). Baseline games are now more entertaining.

It was slowed down in 2007, but Federer was still able to win.

  2. yes the grass has slowed down since 2006 and onward... they have employed heavier balls and changed the type of grass they employed...

they have called it more hard court freindly, and especially towards the end of the slam the grass does slow down, and it does resemble more of a clay court.... it is true..

grass is not as fast as others beleive it to be.... the court at the US OPEN is faster these days..

  3. They have been slowing the court down for a long time. They tried for the last 30 years (i think). And yes they made changes to the ball and court.  They wanted to court to slow down so the more and more of the players can play better on grass. And i think that that destroys the whole meaning on grass tournaments like wimbledon. Wimbledon is suppose to be fast not slow.  hope i answered your question.

  4. Sometimes by making the grass slow it can make the ball bounce higher. They can use different types of grass or rye seed. This can affect the balls bounce

  5. I'm annoyed with slow courts. I wouldn't want them to be as fast as in Samprass' day, because then the game gets boring. But, I liked it before 2006 and especially this year, where it was even slower, due to the effed up balls they used.

I was pretty pissed that they'd mess with Roger's potential to bear Borg's record by changing the playing field  -literally. They could have waited till 2009.
