Are pickles small cucumbers? Or are they totally differant?

Yes, they are small cucumbers raised especially for pickles. Or, big cucumbers for larger pickles.

Pickles are pickles. they are pickled cucurbits for the most part but can also be a wide variety of veggies which have been brined and treated for taste, texture, and preservation. that said, pickles are small cucumbers if you or the pickler want them to be. small cukes are favored by most I would say

Yes same thing b/c if you put a small cucumber or any size in a jar full of vinegar and salt with at tightly closed lid and let it sit for a month you will have pickles.

there are all kinds of pickles in this world !!

the Koreans have a mixture of cabbage and hot peppers in a salty brine that they call Kim Chee

and people in India have many kinds of pickles,  mostly cured in oil,  with spices

in the Middle East they pickle peppers (Turshi) and various other vegetables and fruits

in the UK / US / and Europe they pickle various sizes of cucumbers - some quite small called gherkins and cornichons -

in addition they pickle tiny green beans (Dilly Beans),  tiny ears of corn,  and larger varieties of cucumbers ...and make mixtures of pickles,  some sweet and spicy (like India Relish and Sweet Mixed Pickle),  some pickled in mustard and oils and spices (Mustard Pickle or Pickalilli)... it goes on and on !!

Many different vegetables can be pickled, such as cauliflower, carrots, beans, and of course, cucumbers.  Some people even pickle green tomatoes and watermelon rinds.  My mom pickled watermelon rinds one year and she pickled fish another time,but no one else in the family would eat the stuff.

So small cucumbers can be pickles, but all pickles are not necessarily small cucumbers.
