I was just wondering because I recently went to NYC and became interested in the city and the subway and knew that two stations nearby are now closed off.

  1. well there actually was a subway station IN the world trade center. so yes many people on their way to work

arrived to work on the subway and that was that.

my aunt was late to work that day and it essentially saved her life.

  2. My understanding is that nobody died while in the New York City subway or its stations.  The same applies to the PATH train.  Both systems rapidly closed off their stations and their services to the affected areas.

Several subway stations were severely damaged.  The PATH station, which was actually under the WTC, had to be completely rebuilt in a slightly different location.

There was some concern about flooding, and in fact water did get into the PATH system, but not enough to destroy the system.  PATH used some of the trains at the WTC station to evacuate the remaining passengers to the New Jersey side before closing off their tubes under the Hudson.  I believe that at least one train was abandoned in the WTC station.
