  1. do you play sevens aside or fifteen?

    the most important stuff:

    don't panic pass

    you can't forward pass

don't let go when you wrap up

don't be scared, be nervous at the most

    be confident but not cocky

    communicate

    run to spaces not faces

if you can't make a good pass DON'T either go to ground or in doubt run your heart out

if you need more message me (:

  2. it depends on your position

1-prop-rucking, mauling, scrummaging, lineouts...but you would need special training to play front row without hurting yourself

    2-hooker-same as 1

    3-prop-same as 1

4-second row-same as 1 but no special training, generally the tallest in the forward pack

    5-second row-same as 4

6-flanker-the quickest of forwards, they have the same duties but are usually the first to breakdowns and their impact can make a big diffrerence

    7-flanker-same as 6

8-number 8/lock-similar to second row, usually at back of lineouts and can pick from scrums

9-scrumhalf/halfback-is responsible for organising the team during breakdowns and passing the ball out from each if it isnt picked up

10-flyhalf/5/8-first receiver, generally the play maker of the team, kicks passes runs, organises the backline

11-wing-should be one of the quickest on the team, usually all thats required is to catch and run, required to drop back in defensive kicking situations

12-inside centre-a bit of a combination of flyhalf and outside centre, should be quite fast but also a solid runner, hole runner and decoy

13-outside centre-they biggest of backs, is generally the linebreaker due to pure size

    14-wing-same as 11

15-fullback-similar to flyhalf in duties but can interlock where ever in the backline, very versatile attacking role, should be fast, great tackler, good kicker, the final line of defence

rucks form when a player is tackled to the ground, the forwards will try to retain the ball by pushing the other team off the ball as the other team is trying to push off the attacking team to win the ball, backs can get involved if required but if forwards are available should stay out. tackled player has to release the ball or will be penalised

mauls are the same as rucks but the tackled players remains on their feet, in this case the ball must be ripped out through the hands, and similar to rucking

lineouts occur when the ball is kicked out, the hooker throws it in a straight line as 2 forwards lift another forward in the air to catch it, the opposition will do the same to contest the throw and possibly win the ball

scrums are basically a better timed and formed ruck, requiring every forward to push against the other teams forward pack...strong forward pack = win

it sound like you'll be in the backline, just always stay BEHIND the person passing you the ball and keep the ball away from the opponent if tackled...defence allways stay on your opposite number's outside shoulder so they will more than likely attempt the run through your inside, meaning more support for you with more defensive players and eliminates the possibility of creating an overlap out wide

it sounds complicated haha but once you play a bit it catches on quick...have fun playing the greatest game on earth =]

  3. Totally not dumb at all!

Well, first off I can tell that the first guy above knows his stuff, so pay attention to him more than me, he has 4.5 years on me, and he gave an awesome explanation. (second guy was cool too, lol)

Second off, realize nothing can replicate actually being in the game, and it takes most people a couple of matches or even season or two to really figure it out pretty well. HOWEVER, it will probably click pretty well after a match or two, and even if you don't get something, you can still contribute to the team.

Thirdly, I'm pretty sure you play rugby union; if and when you go looking on the web for more info, keep that in mind.

Just don't be offended if someone tells you to do something different while you are on the pitch, they are just trying to help you learn. My coach says if you make a mistake, just make sure you are doing it with intensity.

I found watching these videos in the following order helped tremendously:

    http://www.videojug.com/film/armchair-fa...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEQyCcage...

Then go back to the video jug site and watch all the rest of the vids in the rugby section.

  4. Ok so basic's There is what is called a scrum The hooker in the front row middle, the loose head prop, and tight head prop on each side. Second row consists of number 4 lock and number 5 lock. they bind on to the props. Helping to push in the scrum. then the "third row" blind side flanker on the left, open side flanker on the right, and the number 8 in the middle. then all the backs, staggered to the right or left.

Then we have line-outs, done when the ball is kicked or ran out of bounds. Two players lift one player up to catch the ball in mid air. Both team's do this, so the better man get's the ball i nthe air. It's also important you have a good throwing arm iff your throwing in the ball.

When you tackle, dont take any second thoughts, just go down, shoulder first, and knock some b!tchesss.

Godd luck in your first game.

This year was my first year playing rugby.
