I know this might be a dumb question but I went to the CA DMV because my TX registration is going to expire ?

So I Lived in Calif all my life I moved to texas for a year and have texas plates and driver's license and am now back in Calif . I went to the DMV today to get CA driver's license and I told them i had my old plates and they gave me my orginal license # and said OK $ 30 go take a picture . So I did and left later thinking they will mail me my car tags and I would pay by mail but now I'm not sure if I needed to regester my car separately. do you no the process thank for your help !

  1. Yes, you have to register your car separately.  Vehicle registration and Driver License Renewal are 2 different departments


  2. Registration and license are two separate things.  You need to fill out a form for each one.  Applying for a license doesn't automatically get you tags.

  3. Yes, this is two separate steps, doing one won't get the other done.  spell check
