I'm going to a tennis camp soon and I'm excited, but I'm not the best tennis player in the world, and I'm nervous about everyone being better than me and being nasty about it. This is an expensive camp and i just want to become a better player, make friends, and have fun!

does anyone have any comments that will ease my mind?

  1. Well, just be your self, and remember: "All experts were once beginners". Stick that in your mind, and it might ease you down. Good luck!!

  2. Tennis camps are about learning skills, not necessarily winning. My son is now at a tennis camp at Chapel Hill for tournament play. There are many very good players and we knew he'd be nowhere near the top of the bunch! He's only been playing competitively for about 1 1/2 years where many of the kids have been playing since they were little. Chris Hinson our tennis pro at a local tennis park told us that for our son to go with people better than him will inspire him.  He became pro, but only started tennis after his 9th grade year when his high school baseball team didn't want him. This is so similiar to my sons situation.  (The politics of baseball here is pretty bad.)  He called us and is finding that the kids are very nice, and even helping him with his skills! Tennis players respect kids who want to learn the game and who are putting out their all to be better! I think if you just take a deep breath and jump into it you'll have great fun, and even meet a few new friends along the way!
