Question:

I know we're all sick of the "Favre" thing...but since when do you get to choose who you are traded to?

It was my understanding that if you were traded it wasn't your decision; am I wrong about this? I'm a Packer fan (and a Favre fan), but I am completely confused. Any clarification would be appreciated.

  1. You are correct. They are trying to "do the right thing" and accomodate him (as opposed to his"doing the wrong thing" and throwing management under the bus). The others that say he is playing this right are incorrect, the Packers can trade him to a team of their choosing and he does not have a no trade clause (these are exceptionally rare in the NFL, baseball and hockey these are more common). If he refuses to report the Packers DO NOT have to bring him back, he gets placed on the "suspended- failed to report" list per the collective bargaining agreement and either sits out or files retirement papers yet again (if he sits out he goes unpaid, if he retires he draws his pension). Obviously the Packers and Favre want this to work out so the damage done can eventually be fixed but the Pack can finally grow tired of all this and force his hand (they will need a trade partner willing to help them squeeze Favre, that may be the hard part).  But per the collective bargaining agreement the Packers, not Favre control the final outcome.

  2. He has unique terms to his contract.

    1. He can veto any trade (pretty much so the packers can't trade him to a terrible team)

    2. If they cut Favre, he can sign with any team in their division (Bears, Vikings, Lions)

Now the packers just have to decide if they want him signing with a rival (vikings), trade him to a decent team, or let him sit on the bench wasting money)

  3. He will retire if he gets traded to a team he doesn't want to be traded to. That would cancel the trade.

  4. It was probably a clause in his contract giving him that option of where he wanted to go.

  5. he is going to the vikings

  6. I'm pretty sure Farve has a no trade clause in his contract letting him veto any trades he doesn't like.

I was wrong its not an offical no trade. But it has become an unofficial

  7. It is about interest and ability to pay his contract from other teams not about favre choosing.

  8. Well for what he's done with that Franchise...he deserves to make the Decision...who cares if he wants them for the next 2 years..atleast it's only 4 games...well yea than probably no playoffs..but whatever

  9. The Packers could "attempt" to trade him to anyone they want.  The problem is, if Brett fails to report to that team, the trade is voided and he goes right back to the Packers roster.  Then they would be forced to keep him or release him.  It appears Favre is playing this game to the letter, and will either end up as QB of the Pack or the team that could hurt the Pack the most-Minnesota.  If he had kept his mouth shut and not thrown the team "under the bus", his trade value would have been much higher.  Given the way things stand now, the ENTIRE NFL knows that the Packers will not keep him as a 12 million dollar backup, and no one will trade a bag of magic beans for him at this point becuase they know the Pack will eventually be forced to play him or release him.
