  1. my guess would be the discovery of fire and invention of clothes and shelter had summat to do with it

  2. scientifically speaking when humans were ''cave men" they were covered with thick hair all over their bodies to help keep them warm due to the cold weather. but as time went on they no longer needed their bodies covered in hair because they found ways to keep warm. so as all those years pasted new ways to keep warm were invented like clothes made from animals quilt fires and now heaters.

  3. It is called evolution and adaptation. Any one in a science class learns about it.

  4. the best theory round this question is written in Desmond Morris's theory bout Homo Aquabilis, which states that our ancestors lived in swamp-like regions (East-Africa) and spent so much time in and about water that the more furry guys didn't do so well and the more naked guy thus got more descendants, so naked was the new fashion and we never got into the situation in which nakedness was such an disadvantage to 'regain' the fur.  Other benefits of the swap camp : sweat glands, under-skin fat layer, big head (brain), diver's reflex, etc. Anyway, for me the most likely theory and maybe where we ought to look for the missing link.

  5. For the same reason we no longer have tails, it wasn't necessary anymore.

  6. Simply because we don't need it, the hairs we do have is enough for us, if we had furr in the summer we wouldnt be able to cope because it would be too much, and although we do get cold in the winter, furr isnt needed as we have things such as clothes and heating.

  7. Because we were created different.

God made us so we can wear clothes

  8. we do have a light layer of hair all over our bodies to keep heat in :|

  9. idk..

i think its because we can keep warm in lots of other ways, and that's why animals have fur.

    i guess

  10. Fur consists of two or three layers of hair, each of different length.  I guess we aren't covered in fur because our body hair comes in a single layer, and hence we don't qualify.

Whether we lost layers 2 & 3 in the course of our evolution - well, you'd have to ask a biologist.

  11. Uh, no reputable scientist thinks we evolved from whales. That person misunderstood.

We don't KNOW, but the two current hypotheses are these: There was a time in our evolution where we were partly marine (a garbled version of this is what that "whales" person was thinking of, I'm guessing); OR that, once we started wearing clothes, since parasites are a burden, and love fur, we lost our fur, thus reducing our parasite burden.

But no one knows for sure at this point.

  12. Evolution and modern man made invention has dispensed with our need to be covered in it.  In fact we as cultured humans now find body hair to be unattractive and we strive to remove it and think we look more youthful without it as in a child or young adult has less hair than say a full adult does, and if we take it away we may appear to look less mature or aged.

  13. This is one of the reasons why some scientist think we "evolved" from whales (who have hair and not fur) or seals or other aquatic life that have hair.  You can split down the middle Mammals with fur and those with hair.

  14. One word, evolution.

  15. Read Elaine Morgan's work regarding theories about modern humans having evolved aquatically - the Descent of Woman and the Aquatic Ape Theory.

Her explanation claims that we lost the body hair so that we could adapt to a water habitat.  Not like seals, or dolphins etc... but creatures more suited to living in and around water.  To have excess hair would have been too much of a drag, so we became hairless, only maintaining that which protects vulnerable areas.  It is an interesting hypothesis and linked to so many more about her adherance to a particular theory of evolution.
