  1. Once you arrive in Canada and have your visa processed you become a landed immigrant to the country.  In order to retain that status you must accumulate at least 2 years of residency days in every 5 year period.  These can be gotten in one of two ways, either by remaining physically in Canada or by living outside of Canada while holding a "returning resident permit".  This permit allows you to be outside of Canada to take care of personal business or because of employment while not being considered to have abandoned your residency status.

For example, my daughter was adopted from overseas.  At the time my family was required to be overseas itself because of my employment.  My daughter became a landed immigrant to Canada and then returned with us overseas for two years BUT we had one of these permits and the time she was out of Canada was not considered against her and she was able to retain her landed immigrant status.

Given the time lines you mentioned, if you do not have (or never got) one of these returning residents permits, you may find that you are no longer considered a landed immigrant to Canada and you have no ability to return here.  I'd suggest you contact the closest Canadian Embassy, Consulate or High Commission and ask them.  Hopefully it's still valid however if you don't intend on living here then what difference does it matter (unless you are just one of those people who want the benefits of being "Canadian" without any of the responsibilities).

  2. you have not stayed in canada for the required time you need to have lived in canada for 2 years in a 5 year period so your immigration may be cancelled

you need to contact immigration canada to see what your status is
