Im from Ireland on a 1 year holiday/working visa, i got stopped by OLD police one morning and failed a alcohol concentration test, i was marginally over from the night before, a court date was set which i missed about 4 months ago as i have been traveling around and a warrant is out for my apprehension in OLD, my question bluntly is - will i get stopped/ arrested going through immigration in Sydney, NSW airport flying out if there is a warrant for my arrest in OLD? really need to know any real information on this is much appreciated. Thanks

  1. You may get stopped at the airport, just go to a police station and hand yourself in, pay your fine and then you can leave.

If you don't sort it out they may put a ban in place on your passport stopping you from returning for a short time.

    Thanks for disrespecting our laws.

  2. pay the fine & it is all over & you can go

  3. Failure to turn up is contempt of court, wasting the court time, for not turning up when told the warrant is issued to make sure you turn up.

Driving over prescribed alcohol content (if that is all and is first time) is not that serious so probably a fine and loss of points on your licence to teach you not to do it again.

Not turning up can make things worse !

Really they just want to get it sorted out and off the list of cases still to be dealt with.

Unlikely you will be apprehended then extradited from Sydney to Brisbane for an over the limit, particularly if is first time.

IF they decide to deal with it in your absence then fines and costs imposed often seem higher...

A while back was talk of linking court penalties, fines etc to computers so when your details scanned on way through whether on way in and out,  any penalties would be located and you could be required to pay before leave or get in again :-(

Best follow up what happened and sort it out, by phone or mail.

Then you not be reminded long after you forget about it and come back and find it still there so shows up, only more expensive with interest added.

Give them a call explain why not there, ask what you need do, they may ask for a mailing address so they can post the details to you... and that may be the last you hear of it ever....

  4. you probably wont get picked up but dont expect another visa to australia anytime soon because you wont get one

when in another country you should obey the law

  5. I would imagine (and I'm not a laywer) that even if you got dragged back to QLD, all they'd do is fine you then cancel your Visa

  6. Yes,police would have given your information to immigration. It would be best to let the police know about your situation. If you did the crime ,then do the time ,or pay the fine. That way you can come back here for another visit if you want to.

  7. hey mate, its a missed court date for a dui. you will not get pulled up at the airport with just your passport unless you open your mouth. just get on the plane and leave. nothing is linked to your passport through the roads and traffic authority. you have nothing to be worried about unless they pull you into a room at immigration coz you look worried as then they will do a full check up on you.

just do not get pulled up when driving down as you may get caught then.

oh and if you want to double check info just call immigration and ask not giving any names ect and they actually tell you.

have a safe flight home mate

  8. Quite possibly. Extradition between the states in Australia is a very efficient process. But maybe not. Missing a court date for drink-driving is not exactly national news.
