  1. They'll come after you wherever you are and take  you back to Australia and you'll be stuck there in jail(most likely) until you pay them their money.

  2. You will get a bad credit rating and will not be able to get any more credit. If it's a major credit card company (Visa, MasterCharge, AmEx, etc.), your failure to pay will be noted wherever you go. The company will turn it over to a collection agency which may or may not find you since you've left Australia. If the amount is excessively high (several thousands  of dollars) the collection agency will be very aggressive; contacting relatives, ex-employers, friends, etc. The good news is, they will not really be able to do anything beyond annoying you (and your relatives, friends, etc). But the BEST thing to do is to contact the credit card company and make an arrangement to pay off the debt. And then do it. This too will be noted on your credit report and will help to reestablish your credit rating.

  3. They will find you and sue you eventually. You could call them and see what they would take to settle the account. Sometimes they will settle for less than you owe.
