I work at a restaurant and ordered an Eggplant Parmesan sub to go. It sat on the counter for an hour and a half, then I left it on my kitchen counter for another 30 minutes while I showered because I thought it was simply eggplant. Opened it and it turned out to be chicken, which I don't eat but my husband does. I don't want him to get sick though, what do you think are the chances of this? It is lightly fried, covered in cheese and marinara, but it did sit out for 2 hours and I know chicken spoils easier.

  1. I would eat it.  It's cooked.  If it was underdone, then it probably cooked a little while it sat.  Think of it as eating a pizza that sat out during a party.  Same idea.  bread, sauce, meat, cheese.

  2. I learned about this in a cooking class luckily!

As long as you don't leave it out for more than that it should be just fine to eat :)

    But also keep in mind,

It might depend on the type of meat you leave out. But chicken should be fine...

  3. Personally ... I would not eat it.   It might be ok - but it's a chance .. you just don't know what condition the food may be in.

  4. When I started being a Chef, there was an old saying that has stuck in my mind since day one. " When in doubt, throw it out ". Is a $1.00 worth of food worth the risk of going to the hospital and missing work?

  5. If your house is on the cooler side I think  it should be fine.

  6. One best thing to check is if the chicken is still warm, or if it is cold. Another thing is to check for smells, does it smells like you first opened it or a not very good smell. Otherwise I do believe it could be ok, best to reheat if still warm. Good luck!
