I left an item in store cart. What should I do?

It's a bathtub drain that cost $15. We are getting our bathroom redone and want to skrim and save as much as possible, so I would like to not have to buy a new one. Also, if it changes things, it was at a Home Depot that is 30 mins away. Thanks for your help with my minor problem! :)

  1. well unless you can fabricate one yourself ala McGyver from aluminum foil and duct tape, I suggest going back to Home Depot and getting another one--   Depot is very easy to get things from for free--   just explain to customer service that it was left in the cart or maybe never put back in the cart at the checkout--  most likely they will believe you

  2. some times those items are returned to the customer service desk give'em a call

  3. My store usually keeps the item at the service desk for a couple of days before returning it to the shelve.

  4. I'm not sure what your asking?  You didn't take it out of your cart at home depot and you have it and didn't pay for it? that's stealing...if you forgot to get it out of the cart and now your in the midst of your bath remodel and don't have it....I think probably another hour on the road is or answer to a remodel done correctly...If ya wanna try it..you could probably take the drain out of the old tub and re-use it.. If it was me?  I'd go back and buy the new one...or I'd take the package and the receipt with you next time you go there and tell them you don't think you got charged for this item.  And pay for it.  Most people would just keep it and chalk it up to "store error" they didn't catch it....still stealing in my opinion.

Or...if it's on your receipt and you don't have it..call the store immediately and tell them you are missing an item.  That way they can hold it for you.

  5. Call the store immediately and ask to speak to an assistant manager or Front end Supervisor (FES). Preferably the FES, because that is the person in charge of the lot engineers (cart pushers). Tell them your problem, and hopefully someone found it. If you really want to push it, tell the assistant manager how your short on funds, and you just can bear to spend that money again, and how it is an item you desperately need. They should give you a new one if no one found it. Although it has lacked in years past, HD is desperately trying to rebuild its reputation for awesome customer service. If they give it to you, get the managers name and give him props with an on-line survey. If they don't get the managers name and bash him on an on-line survey. I worked there 8 years, and I left when the customer service got bad. I left on good terms, and got a better job, but if I were the assistant to answer your call, you would get a new drain from me free of charge.
