I left my vacation with my family because of ill feelings and too many disputes. Was I wrong to do this?

Yes, I live in the UK but my mum and dad and brother live in North Carolina. I planned on staying two weeks but seems like every time I go to visit, my dad is so ill towards me. He gets on well with my brother who he sees regularly but he is lucky if he seems me twice a year. He constantly bites my head off at almost everything I say. My brother is so arrogant and has been ever since he got himself a girl friend and about to graduate from college. He tries, in subtle ways, to get conflicts started by asking me questions, such as "what time did you get in last night", and he always tries to rub America in my face (in subtle ways) when I knows I am an anglophile and love living in England and that things have greatly improved for me here. My mum's behaviour is so "fake" and patronising it is sickening. By the end of the first week, I had it that I left early. Got on the plane and came home. Do you think I was right or wrong in doing that? I mean, I was tired of getting my head bitten off. This is too far of a trip and costs so much money to have to go through that. This has been happening for the past three years and I'm sick of it. The only reason I go back is to visit my grandfather, but they keep interfering. I've been staying at his house but they always come over. What do you think?

  1. I think you did the right thing, you took care of yourself and got yourself out of an abusive situation.

So next time, just go visit your granddad.  Don't make time to visit your fake mom, dad or brother.  they'll just bring you down and they only do that because they have low self esteem.

I really applaud you for having sense to stay away from abusive people, not many people can do that.  Good luck.

  2. i think you gotta do what you gotta do.  you did what you thought was best.
