Also - stating when you find this email me.... I let it go in memory of two people. Then realizing how high the sucker went I began to panic.....

I'm worried because it flew way higher than the airplanes that go by then disappeared into the clouds.

Could it cause an accident?

Please tell the truth - don't' scare me either!

It was a huge mylar balloon....

  1. Not to worry. I just got an e-mail from a friend of mine who is an astronaut.  He said that a huge Mylar balloon just went by the International space station. I didn't tell him that I knew who sent it up. They are putting a space walk suit on one of the guys now and hoping that he can catch it. If you get an e-mail, you know they succeeded. If you don't then you know that it got away.

  2. omg, yes, you probably killd someone

the cops are probably looking for you now

  3. Yes, mylar balloons are illegal to let go into the air like that because they can cause accidents also they are said to hurt the earths ozone layer............

  4. The balloon is small enough,  it disappeared from your sight before it got high enough to be a hazard unless you live near an airport.

As the balloon went up,  the gas inside expanded.   It probably popped within an hour of release.

Instead of a balloon,  folks can avoid this type angst by memorializing lost friends and loved ones in better ways.   Make a donation to church,  animal shelter,  charity, or  hospital   in their names.    Donate a day or more of your time to worthy causes in their name,  such as a soup kitchen or Habitat for Humanity.

  5. In a rare accumulation of extremely rare circumstances, yes it could cause an accident and yes there could be fatalities. In all likely hood though it would burst at some point (balloons get bigger as they rise in altitude because of lower atmospheric pressure) then the limp carcass would slither back to earth where MAYBE someone might take exception to it and try to push littering charges on you.

  6. Mylar balloons are not good to release because they don't degrade like rubber.

there is very little chance of you causing a accident - the only thing mylars can some times land on power lines and cause them to short out.
