when you're talking to him, and he mentions something he likes to do, tell him you should do it together!  its an awesome way to get around asking someone out...

-you should show me what you know!

-(or) you should teach me some!

-we should watch one together!

don't be afraid to show off what you know or what you want to do either,

"i love to play tennis, we should go play sometime!"

"i love to play tennis, i could totally teach you!"
