Ripening of mango is usually induced by treating with ethral, which is an ethylene releasing compound. Studies have shown that treatment with hot ethral (1ml/ lit of water) at 520C for 3 minutes not only induces early fruit ripening, but also reduces the development of post harvest diseases to a minimum in  mango
