  1. if you do it for a living, you have to have a business license, but you can work on them, like neighbors or someone who ask you to. thats what i do, i work on whoever brings their cars to me.

  2. I would advise against it.

  3. You can work on friends and relatives cars, but, as you arent insured, or certified, you CANNOT accept money. You will also need to check out the owners insurance, because if you drive the car and wreck it, you will be responsible, as you arent a mechanic.

You should also be careful, because if you do repairs and damage the car, or if you hurt yourself, then you are not covered, and liable for the damage you do to the car, yourself or others.

If you offer your services to other people, and you have to go to court, you will be liable for all damages, as you arent insured, and the judge wont believe that you were fixing the car for nothing.

  4. You can work on any car you want.  You just cannot legally accept payment for any work done.

You also cannot misrepresent yourself.  You can't say that you are licensed for example.

Also, as mentioned above, should any work done by you prove to be faulty, you could be held liable for any damages that may have occurred and if you are not licensed or insured for that, you will be in pretty big legal and financial trouble.
