  1. The human resources department of the individual shipping lines would be a natural.  They will know what the rules are regarding your passport and visa for such jobs.  My guess is you need to have a clean record all around, but you may not have to get all that much documentation if you do not leave the ship in foreign ports.  If you do, you will clearly need the permission of the country of the port.  The shipping company will know what is required.

To be a reporter, the thing would be to go to work for a local newspaper that does a good bit of wire service news.  They will want their best, most experienced reporters to do the foreign assignments, but some of the best will have had enough of traveling, so they need new ones, too.  If you can go along as an assistant with a good senior reporter, you will learn the ropes.  Again, all this depends on whether you can get a passport and visa for wherever you want to travel.

I do not see the point to an employment agency, unless the shipping office tells you they only work through an agency, in which case they will give you the name and address of the agency.

Of course, much depends on what skills you have to offer such an employer.

  2. For cruise ship opportunities, check the website of each cruise line and on the home page information is provided. Also, there a companies which specialize in hiring for cruise lines. Keep in mind most applications require a current photograph attached to the resume. Also, most lines do not allow you off the ship for the first two weeks of your contract. It is an adjustment period and when the passengers are off the ship, it is your chance to get to explore the ship and become familiar with the different decks.

You can act as a freelance reporter. Send a copy of your work to travel magazines, but check the policy of sending unsolicited material to such places first. This courtesy can often get you an invite to submit one piece of material to them for consideration. Remember, when writing for newspapers or magazines, the most information in the least amount of space is key. Often it is best to concentrate on one aspect, like a wine tasting event and what the ship offers during a typical cruise and what they, and other lines are offering in the future.

Check with all the land based travel agencies which offer bus packages. Often, a second or third language is required along with knowledge of local history.

These are all demanding jobs, but if you love to travel, love interacting with people, and most importantly, are doing it because you want to make them happy, then it is the job for you. Remember, when employed, your needs and concerns are secondary.
