I like turtles?

Question

What is a good type of turtle/tortoise to have as a pet? I was looking into Box turtles, but they like to eat a lot of meat as well as being herbivorous. I would prefer a turtle that was a complete herbivore, but I need some help finding a good type of turtle for a first time turtler owner, that is preferrably herbivorous if possible, thanks! And the turtle's age that it can live to, or size, doesn't matter.

uuuu red eared sliders or desert tortoises are good

I have a red eared slider turtle they are very common and easy to look after. I think tortoises are alot more involved, with bedding and heat and such. My turtle just has a big tank with some rocks to make a shore and water and stuff and he is about 10 years old and happy as could be. He is about 8 inches across right now, maybe a bit more, he is in a 30 gallon tank atm, but needs a bigger one, I am haivng one specially built.

if you want an aqua turtle....Red ear slider......but if you want one to nibble your butt hair, thenI would suggest a ninja turtle

get a Russian tortoise they only grow up to 8 inches they are easy to care for and they are complete herbivores they live up to 50 years it is a life long pet

I understand that the box turtle is the easiest to take care of, another, I can't remember the whole name but its the red eared something. One thing to keep in mind is that baby turtles can give you salmonella poisoning.

If you get a box turtle, make sure that there is a vet in your area that SPECIALIZES  in  reptiles.

Turtles are a long time commitment.

Mine is thirty years old and I had to learn along the way. Buy a book about proper housing , lighting, heating and feeding. It is best that you start out prepared. Make sure his housing is very roomy. Do not let him outside without your undivided attention, because they are easy to lose.  Read up on these guys before you purchase one and only buy from a reputable pet store.
