ok i have a sony handycam DCR-HC38 video camera and i am trying to upload the videos on my computer. well i am using an iLINK cable (IEEE-94) and it has a USB plug on the opposite end. well i did what they tell you to do: plug the cord (usb) side into the computer, and then plug the iLINK side in to the video camera (where it says dv with an i where you plug it in) then turn the video camera on and open the handycam import software and it should come up to say import or whatever. but mine doesnt. it just says "Cannot find the Handycam (Tape).Check the i.LINK connection to the Handycam". i checked it like a million times and it still wont work. can you tell me what i am doing wrong or what to do.!!!!???oh and i have a windows xp laptop if that helps any.and i registered it too.

please no usless advice and the best anwser=10pts. i know i wont get many anwsers though bc this is a difficult question.

  1. USB connections rarely work when trying to upload video. I too have a sony handycam but I have to use firewire in order to get my video off my camera (which I do alot).

One thing you might want to try is to open Windows Movie Maker (which should come preinstalled) and try uploading the video onto there with the iLink cable.

Hope it works cause I know how frustrating it can get!

  2. The supplied cables that come with camcorders are USB cables, not iLink, IEEE1394 or Firewire. You will need to purchase an iLink cable if you want to transfer videos. If you do in fact have an iLink cable, it may be defective or it could either be the dv port on the camera that is defective, maybe even the one on the computer or both. I would try using another cable. If it doesn't work, try it with another computer. That way you would rule out the cable, computer port, camcorder port as being defective. I wouldn't rule out the software being used either.
