  1. In Germany, everybody drinks.

You don't have to order beer if you don't want it, but you might be hard-pressed to find a place that doesn't serve it.

Just because a place serves alcohol doesn't mean that the patrons are engaged in orgiastic bacchanalia.

  2. We lived in Germany for 3 years and my first child was born there. Any restaurant you go to is very likely to be kid friendly, as in general, the Germans are very kid-friendly people. Yes, they all serve alcohol, but don't worry ... those having dinner in a restaurant are not going to be overly affected by whatever they drink there. It's not a cause of concern and it will be quite safe for you and your siblings.

As long as you avoid beer tents at fests, you shouldn't have an issue. Even at the beer tents, when Germans drink, they are generally more friendly and light-hearted, not nasty or rude. Of course there are exceptions to everything, but I found them to be incredible people and would love to visit again!

Enjoy your time there and learn about the culture. Maybe pick up some of the language. Make the most of it while you can. :-)

  3. Friend, I am assuming you probably live on or near the Ramstein AFB. Germans are much like the Irish, French, Spanish, and Italians - alcohol is very much a part of its culture. If you are living in Ramstein, you are going to have to get used to the plethora of alcohol and drinking, especially as the summer heads towards winter and the German populace as a whole gets ready for Octoberfest.

If you are seeking restaurants that are alcohol free, I would suggest that you go perhaps to a restaurant on Ramstein AFB or an ethnic (read: non-German) restaurant where perhaps they do not serve alcohol.  Having been to almost every major city and much of the rural areas, I have never been to a restaurant that does not serve alcohol.

    Willkommen nach Deutschland!

  4. Its spelled Ramstein. Not to far from my hometown. We have a lot of kid friendly restaurants anywhere in our country. Just because alcohol is served there doesn't mean they will force you drink any.You would be to young anyways.

100% Deutsch und verdammt stolz darauf!
