I know I give them plenty of sunflower seeds and corn but I never really see them near a water source. It is in the 100s here lately and they come down from the trees and lay flat in the grass and don't move for hours.

  1. Squirrels get the majority of the water they need from their food, not from drinking. Apparently they have the ability to conserve water much like the camel (just no hump)

  2. Squirrels, unlike Kangaroo Rats, "do" need liquid water just like most other vertebrates.  They usually get this from any source like lakes, streams, faucets, pools of rain water, and even dew drops in the morning.  Like all  rodents, water is very important to them and very necessary to maintain health.

Since you feed them, why not put out a large shallow container of water too.  Change it every day and they'll love it.
