  1. You have certainly got some crazy responses to your question so let me just clear up a few pieces of mis-information you have been given before I answer your question.

First of all since you are from Australia, if you apply for a visa and you are successful then you will be issued with a 5 year F1 (student) visa, it does not matter if this visa expires, you would still be legal in the United States as long as you remain a full-time student. It is the date on your I-20 (a form which the college will issue you once you have been accepted) which is all that matters.

Secondly as an international student you do not qualify for FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) so disregard the information about this from the person above.

Onto your question, yes it is certainly possible for you to attend a college or university in the State of Oregon. There are plenty of universities to choose from also, in fact the Oregon University System as seven public, four-year universities such as Oregon State University, University of Oregon and Portland State University.

You should be made aware of the costs as the cost of tuition alone at these universities varies between USD$4,581 and $19,338 per semester and this does not include the cost of living i.e rent, bills, groceries, medical insurance and books etc.

Once you have decided on which university you want to attend then you simply have to apply, for all the information you need on how to apply then just visit the website of your university and look under the 'international student' section of it, here you will also find the costs, admission requirements and all other relivent information regarding your education at the school.

If you are accepted into the university then they will send you what is known as the Form I-20 and with this you may pay the $100 SEVIS fee and schedule an appointment/interview for your F1 visa at the closest American Embassy or Consulate to where you live.

If your visa application was successful then once the visa as been issued to you, you are then free to enter the U.S. no earlier than 30 days prior to the start of your studies.

    Good luck!

  2. Definitely. Lots of students from other countries attend US schools.  You just need a US student visa.  Just make sure these days that you don't let the visa expire.  They have toughened up on people who have expired visas since 9/11.

  3. Yes sure

First you need enough money to support yourself and your schooling needs

    Acceptance letter from University

    F1 Visa

  4. Absolutely!!! US and Australia have awesome relations when it comes to these sorts of things. Americans go down under all the time to study abroad.

First off get the application for the university you want to go to and read through the foreigh students section. If you have any unanswered quesions then call the university and someone will gladly help. It's also good to call because you form a relationship with someone in the university that could possibly increase your chances of getting in.

Make sure you get a student visa and be prepared to pay for application fees (US colleges have application fees).

Chances are there is someone in your school who can help you out.

    some tips

    - know currency exchange rates

    - Join  Facebook.com and network with ppl already in the university or ppl who will be freshmen and in your year so they can tell you what it's like and you'll already have friends when you get there

    - complete your financial aid stuff (FAFSA) as early as will be permitted. It can be such a huge headache otherwise ( trust me i saw my cousin go through it when she came here to study)

    - have an open mind about other universities in other states Like NY ;-)  (oregon isn't exactly the most "happenin" state but hey to each his own right?)

    Best of luck mate!!!
