I need it so that I don't have to pay for college as an out-of-state student. I have a family friend out there, if this can be used to my advantage.

  1. a) You have to have lived there for a year prior to registration

    or

    b) One of your parents has to have residency there

If you're thinking about sitting out a year to establish residency, make sure you're actually a tax-paying citizen so you have proof of domicile. Also, you might want to see if the school has waivers for some out-of-state students so that you only pay what a resident would pay. It doesn't matter if you have a family friend who lives there or not.
