live in California & am moving to the UK. I want to take my car with me, but I'm not sure of the cost to register and drive it there. I've searched online, but only got confused with the terminology. I'm under the impression that the car will have to be modified, but in what way? Also there are some fees which I don't understand. Please help me. I need to know PRICES in USD that I can understand ASAP

  1. luky those are the places i always wanted to go

We have loads of LHD drive cars in the Uk there is a Chevy and a Transam just along my street as well as a mustang a few streets away.

My local car club which iam a member has loads of US cars as part of it.

In my area we hold the Biggest American advent in Europe.

Driving on the opposite side is fine i drove on a 2k road trip and drove on the other side of the road and found no problems at all.

Your best bet is to check link out and ask those guys on the link if you can't find all the info on there,Thats whom you need details and paper work of.

  3. Depending how long you intend staying and were are the first questions to ask yourself. Apart from being LHD, driving in England in general is a headache, congested roads - parking problems, etc.

I expect your model will require modifications, at least head lights (depending which garage tests your car) which with time and money just don't make it worthwhile on top of shipping costs.

My advice get to England first check the environment in which you will be living and buy a small diesel car car. Have you any idea about fuel prices in UK? Possibly the highest in Europe and still rising.

Post the car model and age for further advice.

  4. Are you kidding?

Have you noticed that they have steering wheel on the OTHER side?  You cannot get your car modified and it would be just plain dangerous for you to drive with the wheel on the wrong side.

    Forget the money.

    Good Luck...

  5. they drive on the left side of the road, did you know that? it'll be difficult for you to drive there with an American car.

and as far as I remember, we paid only one yearly tax, and once during buying the car.
