  1. The Jungle, Pump It Up, or a Home party... either way, I'm sure your 2 year old will have fun. I babysity a lot, and all of the little kids I babysit for LOVE Pump It Up and The Jungle. However, my little cousin has a home birthday party every year and loves it. This year, I did face painting for his party, and we got two relatives of ours to dress up as clowns. The little kids got a blast out of everything! Just be careful that none of the young ones will be scared of the clown if you do that!

  2. Pump-It-Up.....so much fun for kids of all ages...even adults!!! Had my daughter's party there a few years ago, everyone had a blast and they do all the decorating/cleaning up.

  3. With the weather as good as it is you should take the party outdoors. I have had picnic parties at the beach, those are really great for the kids, all you need are some kites/bubbles/balls/Frisbees etc.(Also hands on parent help). Also a local park is great and you can do a bar-b-q. Get a pinata or order a jumper.

  4. Chuck-E-Cheese

  5. I would save the big Birthday for his 5th when he will remember. Children this age tend to get overwhelmed anyways. How about a park? Or just your own backyard with a BBQ and a few close friends and family? You could do a zoo if you really wanted to.

  6. Home:  the kid will probably have just as much fun, he/she won't remember their 2nd birthday by their 3rd birthday anyway, and you'll save a ton of money.

  7. hooters

  8. Hi,

Your two-year-old would be happy with family and 2-4 friends in the backyard or a park, some music to dance to, some games to play, and some cake.  What else do you really need? If you want to go out, Chevy's is great for kids parties.   Decide a budget and stick with it. One rule of thumb I've heard is to invite as many other kids as the age of the birthday child.  I like this idea and found it after planning a large party with 20 kids for my two year old.  It's the last large party I'll do.  It was too expensive and stressful.  The kids had fun, but honestly, I felt it was excessive, and I had planned it.

Take whatever budget you have left and invest it in a 529 and show the value of planning ahead to your child when you can pay for college.

We have a park in San Jose called Happy Hollow that's designed for under 6, and has a zoo.  Meeting up and picnicing at a park like that can be great, too, and relatively reasonable.  Everyone brings some food or you can bring trays from the grocery deli catering.  Just bring extra hands to ensure all the kids are watched and make sure parents know they need to stay with their child at the party, unless they arrange with you in advance.

In Palo Alto, there's a pool park called Rinconada.  Vasona Park in SJ has a train.  Check your local parks and attractions, you can find some fun gems. Check in with neighborhood playgroups to become a member and find out about local kid's events and fun. You should call ahead and see if they have recommendations or reserved picnic spots.

Have a wonderful time and take pictures!  It'll be great because two is such a great age and I bet you'll plan a super party.
