I have a coin here issued in 2000, brassy in color.

Yes the US has issued President Dollar Coins which have the US Presidents.  The US has issued the Sacajawea Dollar also.  The coins are of similar material and are both brassy in color.  The one you have is a Sacajawea dollar.  The Sacajawea dollars started minting in 2000 and the Presidential dollars in 2007.

Yes, we have a few years ago in fact.  

However, they took it out of circulation because it was too much like our quarter and people were giving dollars back for change instead of the quarters.
