  1. Well, to actually build them, most of that is experience you get on the job.  I'd suggest getting a job as a laborer for one of the builders that build locally or their subcontractors (Drees, Ryland, Ryan are a few of the more "corporate" builders in the area).  You'll get stuck doing the c**p work, but as you prove yourself, you'll get the opportunity to start learning the better stuff.

    As an alternative, you could get an apprenticeship with an electrician, plumber, or brickmason, and learn a specific trade that way.

    Or- Hondros college offer "Home Inspector" courses that you can take to become an inspector.

There are several schools in the Cincinnati area where you can take classes.  Look under Greak Oaks in the phone book.  You may also want to look into the carpenters union or as someon else suggested, getting a job as a laborer on a house building site.  Over the Rhine has a few groups where you can donate your time.   They rebuild old buildings in the over the rhine area and make apartments for those that are less fortunate.
