No more than like 5-8 miles right? l am starting to get a little worried since the storm projection has dramatically increased and I have my two toddler (2 & 3) nephews staying over.

  1. A storm surge can be as high as 12 feet up to 25 miles inland -- depending on how and where the storm hits.

    You need to safely evacuate.

  2. hey, i live in baton rouge. I would definitely board up the french doors. I read somewhere, that french doors arent the best to have in a hurricane. They dont hold up well. So definitly do that. I've never boarded up for  a hurrican and we've been fine. But now i have three small kids so for them im going to. Even the smallest chance of glass shattering is something i wont take now. I dont think you have to worry about storm surge but check the new. Im sure if they excpect storm surge to hit that far inland, they'd a said something. Do you think its possible to reach that far?

  3. There is a manditory evacuation in Laffayette Parish

and you should prolly board up all your windows

  4. Please evacuate.

They are saying it will crush through Lafayette.

I'm in Ville Platte and I'm praying we find a way to get our horses out of here.

It will be too scary for those children and too dangerous.

  5. if ur worried about gustav it best to just evacuate

make a mini-vacation out of it

board up the doors too if you must

but theres no telling how serious

    the storm can get

so its best to just leave

  6. The storm surge typically varies from storm to storm. With Gustav, you might get a 30 foot storm surge which will extend inland to about 5 or 6 miles. (If you're lucky.)

But the heavy rains and the flooding will only make the storm surge *worse*--not better.

So just prepare yourself the best you can. Board up your windows with plyboards or metal sheeting. Because if that storm hits like it's gonna, it'll turn every piece of broken glass it picks up into a lethal hail of shards or missiles.

    You've got 3 days. I would hurry.
