I don't understand it. People LOVE being italian. They wear italian clothes, they go get skin cancer by going tanning to look italian, the guys work out and wear make up and are total guidos, and the girls just dye their hair black, fake tan, wear too much make up, and it goes as far as putting italian flags all over their cars. They don't understand a thing about Italian culture and most have were born in the US and have never even been to Italy. It makes no sense to may (maybe bc I'm not Italian) but I just don't understand it. There seems to be no individuality...everyone looks the same, acts the same, dresses the same, tans the same, smells the same etc. Is this only in Long Island...and if so why?!

  1. I don't know why people love being Italian, maybe because they watch too many movies and want to be like Al Pacino in Scarface or De Niro in Casino.  Who knows?

  2. I live on Long Island too. (North Merrick) I know about the whole Italian thing. I'm Irish and like nobody cares lol. I guess people just like the idea of being a guido lol. (No offense to any Italians.)

    =]

  3. Ferrari, Gucci, designer labels galore... those brands create an image of fantasy in many people's eyes.

  4. first of all where the h**l do you live that you see italians all around you i lived in long island all my life and second of all you are a racist a**hole, one of us italians must of really put you where you belong to have a attitude like that, get a freakin life you are just jealous because you are just plain nasty and UGLY.

  5. Yes, I agree!  I live in North Jersey and it is the same way!  Very accurate description of the metro area in general...long island, staten island, nj, etc!

  6. This is by far one of the most ignorant things I have ever read in my life.  We "love" being Italian?  What does that even mean?  Being proud about where you or your family came from is in no way a bad thing.  And F.Y.I. going tanning and working out doesn't mean you're a "guido".  Are italians the only people who take care of themselves?  You're just bitter because you have ZERO sense of your history and are probably some what jealous of all the hype Italian culture receives in the media, positive or negative.  And who are you to say people who show Italian pride have no sense of Italian culture, that's such a broad ignorant thing to say.  You clearly feel threatened by Italians and this is the only way you can vent your petty frustration.

P.S.  400anhour, I don't know how much crack you were smoking when you wrote that but Scarface was a Cuban refugee and Deniro was a jew in Casino....

  7. must be a long island thing. There does not seemto be an overwhelming problem of psuedo Italians in NYC.

  8. i am SO glad i live in upstate and NOT "wrong island".....

  9. Two reasons

    1) about a third of Long Island's population is Italian. There are more people of italian heritage in NY than in ROME. So what if they're proud of their heritage, EVERYONE should be proud to be whoever they are.

    2) Not everyone tans to look italian. I live in queens and we have pretty much the same situation you do. Most people tan because they think it looks better than being pale. And i agree, even though skin cancer isnt worth the risk. People in Cali, Chicago, Boston and other cities all do the same thing, EVERYONE cant be tryin to be italian now. People wear italian clothes cuz it's stylish.

And i know alot of long islanders. The only guys that wear makeup are g*y, or emo and they wear that eyeliner bullsh!t

  10. They're proud of their herritage but I don't think they do such things as tanning, dye their hair black, work out, wear too much make up to be Italian. I live in Queens and know a lot of people of the Italian heritage, they're nothing close to what you're pertaining to maybe some but not most of them. You wanna see real Italians, try visiting Middle Village and Howard Beach, they're known to be the biggest Italian communities in Queens.

Maybe it's just that you notice them too much, or maybe it's just within your community or maybe because some people wanna belong, I really don't have any explanation on why some people act the way they do. Maybe you could ask them and find out.

  11. i live near NYC and people could care less about Italians, or being Italian. I guess it depends where you live.

Long Island is full of some very pathetic people...
