I have no stove or oven. All I have is a refrigerator and a microwave. The galley food is horrible, and generally not edible. How can I eat healthy enough to lose weight and keep my energy. I'm trying to lose weight and tone up. Need guidance please!

  1. You can store diet drinks, eat microwave dinners with low cal content, and canned meats that only require heating, plus fruits and veggies. Also take a vitamin appropriate to your age and s*x.I don't recommend the power drinks, too much sugar, so read the labels. There are a lot of canned products that can be eaten cold, or heated in the microwave.Galley food is supposed to be healthy, So I don't know how you would make it taste better. We used a lot of hot sauce.

  2. Keeping a food journal really does help.  It will give you a much better sense of how much you are eating, and when, and why.

Make a few small changes - walk everywhere, always use stairs instead of elevators, walk on escalators, get up and move around at least once an hour if your work or life in general is sedentary, walk every day, use a pedometer. Walking 10,000 steps a day is a really good idea. Build up to a long brisk walk everyday, or most days.  Be more active and watch less TV and spend less time on the computer.

Start a weight lifting routine. It will help increase your metabolism and make you feel and look better in so many ways. Join a gym. Possibly you can find one that has someone who specializes in weight lifting programs for beginners. Weight lifting will increase your metabolism as well as improve posture and appearance overall.

In terms of diet, cut out or reduce things like junk food, pop, fat, fast food. Eat more fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grain breads and cereals, low fat cheese and low fat but nutritious microwave meals - you can get them.  Stock up on things like natural peanut butter, skim milk, hummus, pita pockets, couscous (you can cook it in the microwave), dried fruit and nuts, yogurt. Drink plenty of water. You will begin to see changes in your body.

  3. Buy groceries and cook your own food.  Buy a hotplate if you need to.
