  1. adding some salt beneath the roots will help them settle in. I suggest 1oz of salt per tree.

  2. you just bought them it will be easier to take care of them in the ground than it will in a pot or ball and burlap.  in any area of the U.S.  it is not the best time of year but if you can keep them watered than you will be O.K.  DO NOT PLANT TO DEEP!!

  3. What did the guys say at the place you bought them??  I do not know your area, but THEY do.  Ask them.  Some trees come with a guarantee.  Get advice before digging them in to your yard.

  4. I think you  can plant them now - they will have a chance to take root before the cold weather comes.

In October, I suggest you Mulch the trees with lots of leaves and old branches and  some landscape fabric to protect the branches from the wind and frost.

    good luck

  5. summer isnt the best time to plant only because its excessively hot and dry, the newly planted trees need a good amount of moisture to properly 'take' to the ground , when you first plant something - it shocks the plant for a few days to a few weeks and during that time the roots wil not deliver as much water as they normally would and with the hot sun beating down on it - it will quickly dry and kill the leaves.

Although its not the best time to plant- its not a good time to keep in pots either - pots will need to be watered even more often, and if you decide against planting right away then you are best off keeping them in the shade.

But planting can be done with sucess as long as you water them several times a day, a real good watering after the sun has gone down will be quite helpfull. on the plus side - if the trees do get any sun damage -skip laurels can be cut back and will regrow quickly. Plus dont cut or trim them for a few weeks to avoid any damage.
