  1. HAH! my sisters boyfriend was nailed using that back in 1975 in NM... they should be good at it by now. Yes indeed.. there are painted stripes on the highway with an officer of the law on the other side of an obstruction (hill, ramp etc)  and the guy flying calls.. Green sports car... MARK.... and the cop starts his clock and can either snap it when he sees the car, or when the air unit calls it.. usually the cop calls it because the air unit has a hard time watching both ends of the line and other cars at the same time.  He was popped for doing 90 in a 70 and when told he was tagged by an air unit.. he said.. "you guys are getting kinda chicken **** about this aren't you???  I am surprised that they are still doing it... but I will have to say... you have NO defense against that...  nothing to warn you...

  2. No, what they do is they can check your speed by aircraft (how long it takes you to get from point A to point B). They'll then radio to a cop on the ground and give them all your details. They can then pull you over for speeding.

  3. Yep all they do is time you driving from point a to point b(a known distance) and then do the math to calculate your speed. Then they radio ahead to a cop on the ground to pull you over. They just say stop the red car after the semi truck or some thing like that

  4. Geeze, RADAR?

There are lines on the side of the highway. They time your speed in between a set of lines with a stop watch . They look at a printed chart that tells them how fast you were going in that distance between the two fixed lines.

It's easy, cheap, and reliable. You are hosed.

  5. no. certain aircraft such as a helicopter or police aircraft will monitor your speed either visually or by radar. then, it will radio in a patrol car on you.

ever notice wide stripes of white on certain sections of the beltway? They are spaced a certain distance apart, (something like 0.1 miles) and then the guy will count how much time it takes you to go from one stripe to the other. thats how the tell visually.

radar is easy, its a radar that tracks your vehicle and a computer calculates your speed.

the air force AWACS plane can do this also since its radar automatically detects anything going faster than 80 mph. (they don't though)

  6. Nope, they will radar you and radio ahead to the Trooper who will happily issue you a citation. Have you NEVER heard of a radio!
