Well, if you teach in NYC, you make more than I do, so let's cut to the chase. You can buy a decent longboard for anywhere from $450.00 to $700. (give or take 50 bucks). There are hundreds of great surf shops between Montauk Point and Cape May. Go to any one of them, and the folks there will help you get a board that is just right for your size, skill level, the breaks you ride and your budget.

Unless you are a very savvy surfer, don't even think about buying anything on line, you'll only end up wasting your money. And certainly, you don't want to look at the junk that masquerades as surfboards at Costco and the like.

I have been surfing in New Jersey since '66, and if you would like, I could recommend some great shops in south Jersey. I'm not as familiar with the ones up north, and I'm a babe in the woods on Long island. But, I know the shops are there, and they are the places to look.

Craigs list Like surf man said but place a wanted ad once a week changing from one day to the next for eight weeks. or come to California  ( H B ) there are used ones for sale on about three corners driving up Beach Blvd. into Buena Park

well it depends were you live...if you feel like taking the drive to newjersey, i know of a lot of great surf shops that carry used boards....you can go to Brave new world in point pleasent or ron jons surf shop, or any surf shop bc they usually cary used or you can even find a bargin
