Her bio dad is dead and I would love to adopt her. Do the courts do adoption at 19? Do I need an attorney?

  2. Why not wait until your fiancee commits to marriage before even thinking of adopting anyone.

  3. i'm from ny and if i am not mistaken, you can not adopt adults.

  4. Well, if you adopt her, you will have to help pay for her college costs and also her health insurance... which I'm sure both are weighing on her mind heavily.

Whatever you do, don't be taken for their personal ATM.

  5. Yes, New York does adult adoption.  I would contact the Clerk of Court to find out what paperwork is required.  Generally, a lawyer is not required.

  6. This would be an adult adoption.  I'm not sure of the requirements in New York, but generally, it's simply a matter of paying a fee and filing a form.  She is over 18, so it's not nearly the process of adopting a minor.
